This was the third stop in our pub crawl. If my camera is to be trusted, it is a cozy hole-in-the-wall called Cafe The Minds. We chose this pub/bar with the same careful strategy with which we research and choose most of our pubs: having seen it across the street from the previous pub, we stumbled over for a look! (I'm half joking. We're not usually stumbling). This was not far down the street from the Hoppe in the Spui square area of Amsterdam.

It was quite a happening little place, popular with locals, and staying open very late. It was alive with youthful energy, but not overwhelmed by it. It's easy to envision older crowds gathered here at an earlier hours perhaps, but it seemed to cater to the late night crowd. The pub across the way had chased everybody out by around 2:00 am, and this place welcomed us and never slowed down. Evident in some of these photos is some interesting woodwork in the ceiling of this pub.

I must have had this to drink. It was probably the first time, and if it wasn't for the photo I took I wouldn't know what to call it. In fact, I still don't know what to call it. But I liked it.
I must have some Japanese ancestry in my lineage; I'm a shameless tourist with camera in hand. So when I saw the dog on the table I asked the man if he minded me taking a photo. He said OK, and here it is. It's a pub study. Call it, "Dog On Table, Amsterdam, 2007"

Maybe it's common there. It sure as heck ain't common here in the USA! I like it. It makes me want to get a dog and move to Amsterdam -- not necessarily in that order. What a great excuse to hit the pub -- "But, honey, they let dogs sit on the tables over here. Scrappy will be so happy while I drink with the guys!"
