I will always believe that the F86 was the best jet
fighter of its era. The new fighters may have better performance today
but not the lines and grace of the F86. I will always love it the
same as the P51 Mustang of the WWII era. |

I was a budget and accounting 1st Lt. at K-55 from April
to December 1953. It was a wonderful experience with a lot of very
fine fellows. The picture of the K-55 officers' club brought back
memories. Thanks for the Guest Book. |

In the summer of 1953 I was assigned to the 366 Fighter/Bomber
Wing at England AFB, Alexandria, Louisiana. The Wing had just returned
from Korea with P-51's and were trading them for brand new F-86F's.
I was Crew Chief on SN 53-5109, brand new with 6 hours on the airframe.
My pilot was 2nd Lt C. T. Dabbs. I was an A/3C at the time just out
of Tech School. Any folks from the 391st Fighter/Bomber Squadron stationed
at England AFB in 1953 please contact me. |

Hi...
I'm doing research for a fictional novel on the Korean Air war
from the enlisted man's viewpoint and wonder if you can describe
some of the duties of the armament men that supported F-84's.
What was the AFSC and title of the crewmen who loaded bombs and
armed the guns? .... and for crew chief?
Do you have any anecdotal stories that would help me describe the
pre and post mission activities performed by the enlisted airmen?......
crew chiefs armorers etc.
Thanks
John

Hi all. I'm looking for a video copy of the 1953 film
"Sabre Jet" starring Robert Stack. If anybody has a copy,
please let me know. Thanks. -- Webmaster |

Hi John,
Terrific web site. The only time I saw any of the 335 boys was when they
would make their way to Kadena and need
fuel to get home.I remember fueling a lot of them.Keep up the good work,
I have been reading on your site for nearly
two hours and it looks like I've just started.

Boy what a suprise! I thought all of us who had served with the 4th fighter
intercepter wing in Korea were all dead or lost!
Having served with all three fighter sqds, I enjoyed your site very much.
To bad our own countrymen don't know what a
group of brave men were there. There were some fun times there as well.
Let me say hello to my fellow airmen who served.

I was very glad to find your site. I
remember listening to those songs when I was 3 to 6 years old.
Like you, I didn't really know what some of the lyrics were about,
but I understood that they were about having some fun while doing
dangerous duty.
My father was in the Air Force and had been stationed in Japan
and Korea.
He had an old reel-to-reel recording of Wild Blue Yonder. Two years
ago I tried to get it to play (and re-record it on cassette) it
was so old you could only understand it if you had heard it before.
I listened enough to write down most of the lyrics and print them
out.
I have looked for a web site that might have an old copy or information
on this record. My father had told me that he could remember the
cover with the guy in a 'chute and I knew when I saw your page I
had finally found the "Real Thing".

Hello: My name is Milbourne Whitt, (A1c)
with the 335th Chiefs, from 11/52-10/53. I worked as a clerk in the
Engineering Office. I have been searching the internet for some of
the people I knew over there. My Commander was LtCol Vermont Garrison,
and I've later read, double-ace of both wars. Those 4th FIW pilots
was really up against it; MIGS flew higher, faster, and were about
2/3 size of an F86F, all of which made them harder to hit. The Chiefs
did not have the three top aces, but we had the most Aces. A really
great outfit. Thanks, M Whitt |
