Who says outdoor cats have all the fun?

We adopted this young cat with the agreement she remain an indoor-only cat. But outdoor cats have all the fun, so we decided to alleviate some of her boredom and build her (her name is "toast") this indoor tree trunk.

It's nine feet of 6" PVC pipe covered by carpet. It rests on its own weight, and is stud-anchored to a hook in the ceiling. The small scratcher/bed to the left is a commercially bought accessory.

We observed her carefully for several days before entrusting her on the bean stalk unattended. She displayed consummate skill, and has even mastered the art of making U-turns midway down. We now leave the post up full-time.

(OK -- so it ain't a ham radio invention. What if I told you the post was also a 15 meter vertical dipole with bandwidth tuning accomplshed by the cat's movement up and down the pole? OK. no more coffee for me...)

The idea was to give her an outlet to really use her claws and enjoy "tree climbing" like an outdoor cat.

No exaggeration: she ran straight up the post the moment I hooked it up. She continues to rage up and down it regularly, and as seen in this picture, she has become skilled at swatting -- even retrieving --various bird-like and bug-like toys we suspend at the top. (because of entanglement potential, we only allow her to play with the suspended toys in our presence -- they are removed during our absence.)
