"The next day I signed up on the courier, but just before
I was to get on the manifest I noticed that there was a strange
Gooney Bird on the field. On a chance, I asked the Op's clerk
where it was going. It turned out that it was a 4th bird and
was on its way back -- by way of Itazuke, no less. So I climbed
on and it saved me the trouble of staying overnight at Brady, as
I would have had to do if I had gone on the courier.
When we landed at K-14, I began to
wish that I had waited for the courier. The pilot seemed
determined to ground loop, and actually ran off the side of the
runway on his first attempt to land. The second try wasn't
much better, but we made it, so I don't guess that I have any
gripes coming."
